Accident: P was undercover narcotics cop. P went to a bar to meet friends. Unexpectedly, P did have a conversation with an informant at this bar about a drug issue. P had a few beers. Then, two men ran out of the bar and a bystander who knew that P was a police officer exclaimed that those men had just tried to rob the place. P gave chase and pursued the men over a wall which he jumped down from about 10 feet onto steep ground. Then he felt a pop in his R knee. When he was found, another officer said he did not smell alcohol on P or think P was intoxicated.
Police officers, even if they are not on duty, "may be at any moment called into duty by events taking place in his presence, whether or not he is technically off-duty." City of Springfield v. Indus. Comm'n, 244 Ill.App.3d 408, 410-411 (4th Dist. 1993).
Injury: Significant R knee bone bruising. Surgery to repair meniscus tear and ACL tear with a loose body in the suprapatellar pouch and grade 4 chondromalaccia
Restrictions: Stiffness, sore, hard sitting a long time
